“The Security Council denounces the terrorist attack on the police station in Iran, which resulted in loss of life.”

“Jaish al-Adl,” a Sunni Islamist group operating in the volatile southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan, has claimed responsibility for the assault on Rasak police station. This is the most recent in a series of comparable events in the region, such as a fatal attack on law enforcement officers in July and the murder of Iranian border guards in Saravan in May.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, Council President José de la Gasca of Ecuador conveyed the Security Council’s sincere condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Council also extended well wishes for a swift and complete recovery to those who were injured.

The Security Council members reiterate that terrorism, in all its forms, poses a major threat to global peace and security. They stress the importance of holding accountable those responsible for planning, funding, and supporting these despicable acts of terrorism and bringing them to justice.

The group members strongly encourage all countries to work closely with Iranian authorities and other relevant bodies to address the issue. They also stress the importance of all countries taking action, in line with the United Nations Charter and international law, to combat the threat of terrorism and maintain global peace and security.

During Friday’s press briefing at the UN Headquarters, Stéphane Dujarric, the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated that the UN strongly denounces the attack that occurred on December 15th. He also extended sincere condolences to the affected families and the government and people of Iran.
