Elon Musk announced that his company, Starlink, will be providing internet connectivity in Gaza.

On Saturday, Elon Musk announced that SpaceX’s Starlink will assist in establishing communication connections in Gaza for “internationally recognized humanitarian groups.”

On Saturday, a lack of telephone and internet access left people in the Gaza Strip cut off from the rest of the world and from each other. Making calls to family, emergency services, or coworkers outside of the area was nearly impossible due to Israel’s increased air and ground attacks.

Humanitarian groups from around the world reported that the power outage, which started on Friday night, was making an already dire situation worse by hindering critical activities and making it difficult to communicate with their personnel on site.

After Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, it was reported that Starlink satellites played a crucial role in preserving internet access in certain regions, despite Russian attempts to disrupt it.

Afterward, Musk stated that he refused to provide coverage to Russian-occupied Crimea and did not permit his satellites to be utilized for Ukrainian assaults on Russian troops in the area.
