Tiger Woods Announces End of Longtime Partnership With Nike

Professional golfer Tiger Woods announced on Monday via social media that he has ended his long-lasting partnership with Nike, the brand he has been wearing since 1996 when he first signed with them.

In 1996, Woods became a brand representative for Nike and had been for over two decades. He signed a $40 million contract at the age of 20 when he turned professional, marking the beginning of one of the most profitable sponsorship agreements in the world of sports.

Woods, at the age of 48, made a comeback to the sport in November after being sidelined for seven months due to an injury. He concluded his statement with “See you in LA!”, indicating that he intends to participate in the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club on Feb. 15-18.

More than 27 years ago, I had the privilege of beginning a collaboration with one of the most well-known companies globally, as stated by Woods on X, previously known as Twitter. The time that has passed since then has been brimming with countless incredible experiences and recollections. If I were to list them all, I could continue on indefinitely.

I am grateful to Phil Knight’s dedication and foresight, which led to the collaboration between Nike and Nike Golf. I would like to express my personal appreciation to him, as well as the hardworking Nike team and the amazing athletes I have had the privilege of working with on this journey.

“Readers may inquire about a potential sequel. Rest assured, there will indeed be a sequel. Looking forward to seeing you in Los Angeles!”

Woods signed multiple deals with Nike over his remarkable career, most recently a 10-year pact in 2013 that was worth a reported $200 million.

Nike officially announced the conclusion of their partnership through a post on their social media account. The post featured a photo of Woods raising his fist and wearing his signature red top, accompanied by the words: “Tiger, it was an incredible round.”
