Lily Thompson Posted on January 28, 2024 Shelters provided for individuals displaced in the south of Gaza. When the conflict started on October 7th, Hala, a mother of four, experienced a sudden and significant change in her daily life. This was also the case for over two million Palestinians residing in the Gaza Strip. Hala documented her experiences in a diary and shared it with the United Nations’ humanitarian agency, OCHA. The story details her challenges in seeking refuge in an empty apartment located in the southern city of Rafah. It also highlights her efforts to stay connected with her family despite disruptions in communication and power, as well as the shortage of basic necessities like food and sanitation.
