The United Nations has denounced the “abhorrent” terrorist attacks that have occurred in Pakistan.
In the Friday attacks, an additional 70 individuals sustained injuries at the Hangu mosque in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and during a religious procession in Mastung, Balochistan.
Mr. Guterres expressed his disgust over the attacks that took place at a holy place during the observance of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
The United Nations reaffirmed its support for the Pakistani government and citizens as they work to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
‘Criminal and unjustifiable’
The UN Security Council members expressed strong condemnation for the attacks and emphasized that terrorism, in all its various forms, poses a significant danger to global peace and security.
The individuals declared that all acts of terrorism are illegal and without justification, regardless of the reason, location, or perpetrator.
The Council members encouraged all countries to fulfill their duties under international law and Security Council resolutions by working closely with the Government of Pakistan and other relevant authorities to hold accountable those responsible for the attacks.
Miguel Ángel Moratinos, the UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), also condemned the assaults, reaffirming that places of worship are sanctuaries where individuals should be able to freely and safely practice their religious beliefs.
