The conflict in Gaza has now been ongoing for five months, with rumors of a potential agreement for a ceasefire.

Martin Griffiths, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, acknowledged the recent international efforts led by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to promote peace in Gaza. He referred to this news as potentially positive and emphasized the significant efforts involved. Griffiths also mentioned the potential for a temporary ceasefire to release hostages and Palestinian prisoners.

The veteran humanitarian informed reporters in Geneva that a period of peace may come after this phase, potentially resulting in an end to the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

A different hospital is in danger of shutting down.

The UN aid coordination office, OCHA, has reported ongoing and severe bombing in many areas of the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, specifically in Khan Younis city.

According to the most recent update from OCHA, the conflict near Nasser and Al Amal hospitals in Khan Younis has persisted for more than two weeks. This poses a danger to the medical personnel, injured individuals, and those seeking shelter at the hospitals, including thousands of internally displaced persons.

According to the report from the local health authority, the latest update stated that Israeli forces have increased their blockade of Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. This puts approximately 300 medical staff, 450 injured individuals, and 10,000 displaced individuals who have sought refuge in the hospital at risk.

There is only enough fuel for four days.

According to OCHA, there is a significant lack of surgical supplies and sutures, and there is only enough fuel to power hospital generators for four more days. Additionally, reports state that another Israeli soldier was killed during the ground operation on February 5-6, bringing the total number of military deaths to 224 with 1,304 injuries.

Approximately 75% of the population in Gaza has been forced to leave their homes due to continuous attacks. Over 50% of those affected are children and are currently struggling with severe shortages of basic necessities such as food, water, shelter, and medicine. Humanitarian organizations from the United Nations have reported that schools being used as shelters for internally displaced people have also been targeted by attacks.

According to reports, there have been 282 occurrences that have affected UNRWA buildings where families seeking shelter were staying. These incidents have resulted in 377 fatalities and 1,365 injuries. The Israeli bombardment began after Hamas-led terror attacks on southern Israel on 7 October, which caused the deaths of more than 1,200 Israelis and foreign nationals and the kidnapping of over 250 people.
