Interim findings have been presented to the Secretary-General by the UNRWA review panel.
The review follows serious allegations regarding the alleged involvement of UNRWA staff in the 7 October attack on Israel by Hamas, which are being investigated by the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS).
On Tuesday, the Secretary-General received the interim report findings and recommendations from the independent review group.
The note stated that UNRWA has implemented numerous mechanisms and procedures to uphold the Humanitarian Principle of neutrality, and has also identified important areas that require further attention.
The assessment team is currently working on creating practical and achievable solutions for addressing key areas of concern and enhancing the agency’s overall effectiveness.
Later on Wednesday, the Secretary-General will receive the preliminary report. The complete report will be delivered on April 20 and will be released to the public.
In February, Mr. Guterres chose the panel with input from UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.
Catherine Colonna, former French Foreign Minister, leads the project in partnership with three research institutes located in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.
