“Accounts from the United Nations Archives: Prominent 1950s actors visit refugee camps in Europe.”

The individual, who was born in Russia and works as an actor, director, and photographer, was chosen as a special advisor for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) during World Refugee Year. In honor of International Human Fraternity Day on February 4th, this week’s #ThrowbackThursday edition highlights the efforts of Hollywood celebrities who brought attention to the struggles of refugees escaping conflict.

The actor who won an Oscar for his role in The King and I, Yul Brynner, traveled to various refugee camps globally and utilized his work in film and radio to bring attention to the struggles of millions of displaced individuals.
