As early as Friday, it is anticipated that Ukraine will receive $425 million in military aid from the United States.

Two sources from the United States have informed VOA that a military aid package worth $425 million will be given to Ukraine, with the delivery expected on Friday.

Unnamed officials told VOA that the President is using his power to withdraw military resources from the Pentagon’s reserves to provide up to $125 million in weapons to Kyiv. This information was shared on the condition of anonymity prior to the official announcement.

This marks the 50th instance of Ukraine utilizing this authority since Russia’s invasion in February 2022. The package consists of additional GMLRS rockets for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, increased ammunition for the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System, additional 105 mm and 155 mm rounds, 12 heavy transport trucks, and other necessary equipment, such as cold weather gear, to sustain operations during the winter season.

Also, the Friday package is expected to contain approximately $300 million in funds from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). These funds will be used for laser-guided munitions that can be used to intercept drones, as reported by the two officials.

The Pentagon depleted its USAI funds and has roughly $5 billion remaining from its weapons reserves. As per officials, the $300 million allocated for USAI to Ukraine is a portion taken from the continuing resolution, which maintains government funding at last year’s levels until a new budget is approved by Congress.

The government shutdown was avoided as Congress passed a continuing resolution, but it will only remain in effect until November 17.

Since Russia’s unprovoked invasion, the United States has given approximately $44 billion in security aid to Ukraine.
