According to a report, India requested that Apple lessen the impact of warnings regarding hacking.
According to The Washington Post, in October, Apple cautioned Indian opposition leaders that their phones may have been hacked by government hackers. This led to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration quickly requesting Apple to tone down their warning.
According to three unnamed sources, representatives from Apple in India were summoned by government officials to assist in reducing the political consequences of the warnings.
A security specialist for Apple was requested to attend a meeting in New Delhi, even though they were not from the country. During the meeting, the specialist was asked to provide other explanations for the warnings.
A response from Apple and India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information was not received immediately after a comment request was made.
The opposition in India has alleged that Modi’s administration attempted to hack the phones of high-ranking opposition leaders. These leaders reported receiving warning messages from Apple.
During that period, certain legislators posted images on social media of a message from the iPhone maker stating: “Apple suspects that you are being targeted by state-sponsored attackers attempting to remotely hack into the iPhone linked to your Apple ID.”
Previously, Apple stated that it did not assign the threat notifications to any particular state-sponsored attacker.
