A large ship designed for transporting liquids has reported a launch of a weapon in the Red Sea area near the country of Yemen.
On Friday, a commercial ship sailing near Yemen in the Red Sea reported that two missiles detonated in the water near its location. However, there were no injuries or damage reported.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) safety organization stated that they were notified by a vessel about an explosion and sighting of a missile approximately seven kilometers away from the ship’s current location, which is 111 kilometers away from the Yemeni city of Aden.
Afterwards, the ship experienced another explosion and observed a missile, this time within a distance of one kilometer. Fortunately, there were no casualties or harm caused by either of the missiles and the ship proceeded to its next scheduled destination.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations stated that “coalition forces” were taking action, but did not provide any specifics.
According to Ambrey, a British company specializing in maritime security, Reuters news agency states that the vessel in question is a tanker carrying oil products. This tanker is registered under the Panama flag and is affiliated with India.
Following a period of seven days, Britain and the United States initiated a fresh series of attacks aimed at Iran-supported Houthi rebel locations in Yemen. The military of the United States reported that the strikes successfully targeted radar installations, sites for launching missiles, and most importantly, a hidden storage facility for weapons.
The attacks were a reaction to Houthi assaults on ships, both commercial and military, in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
On Thursday, Britain and the United States imposed sanctions on four top Houthi officials. This includes freezing or blocking any financial assets they may have that are controlled by American citizens.
The U.S. State Department released a statement condemning the Houthi attacks on merchant ships, citing their negative impact on global supply chains and violation of navigational rights.
The Houthis claim that their attacks are in solidarity with Palestinians who are involved in the ongoing conflict with Israel. A spokesperson for the Houthis stated that they will use military measures to defend their country, people, and nation by targeting American and British targets in the Red and Arab seas, in response to recent attacks by these countries.
Reuters provided some information for this report.
