The United States Department of Justice has announced that it has disrupted a network of Russian intelligence operatives engaged in hacking activities.
On Thursday, the Department of Justice in the United States announced that they have disrupted a network of Russian intelligence hackers.
“According to a statement from U.S. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, we have once again thwarted state-sponsored hackers attempting to carry out cyber-attacks by using compromised U.S. routers, marking the second time in the past two months.”
The Department of Justice announced that a court-approved mission in January 2024 successfully disrupted a network of numerous small office/home office (SOHO) routers under the control of Russian intelligence. These routers were being used to conceal and facilitate various criminal activities.
Attorney General Merrick Garland stated that, in this situation, the Russian intelligence services sought assistance from criminal organizations to attack home and office routers. However, the Justice Department was able to thwart their plan.
Garland announced that the Justice Department is speeding up its actions to interfere with the Russian government’s cyber operations targeting the United States and its allies, such as Ukraine.
