Officials in Russia’s Krasnodar region said Monday a Ukrainian drone attack damaged an oil refinery.
The Tuapse refinery, owned by Russian oil giant Rosneft, sustained a fire that was later put out, officials said.
The same plant was damaged by several Ukrainian attacks earlier this year.
Russia’s defense ministry reported Monday destroying 75 Ukrainian aerial drones overnight in areas along and near the Russia-Ukraine border, including eight over Krasnodar.
Ukrainian drone attacks are typical in those regions, but the scale reported Monday was larger than usual.
The Russian defense ministry said 47 of the drones were destroyed over the Rostov region, where officials said there were several small brush fires but no injuries.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor the Belgorod region, said on Telegram a Ukrainian drone killed one person driving a tractor and injured another person.
Russian air defenses shot down one drone each over Voronezh and Smolensk, where officials reported no injuries.
Another 17 Ukrainian drones were downed over the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, the Russian defense ministry said.
The ministry said Russian air defenses shot down five more Ukrainian drones Monday morning over the Astrakhan region.
Ukraine’s military said Monday its air defenses destroyed 16 Russian drones during the past day.
Serhiy Lysak, governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, said on Telegram that Russia attacked with artillery and kamikaze drones, striking several villages and damaging homes.
Officials in the Sumy region also reported Monday that Russia carried out shelling and drone attacks.
The latest Russian aerial bombardments came a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country’s air defenses had been bolstered by the arrival of more Patriot missile systems.
“We will be able to do more in the skies,” Zelenskyy said in his nightly address Sunday. “Of course, there is still much work ahead, and this is far from guaranteed protection, but nevertheless, it means more strength for Ukraine.”
