On February 3, 2024, the Russian Emergencies Ministry shared a video of rescuers removing injured individuals and searching for survivors in a bakery that was hit by shelling in Lysychansk. The footage was captured by the ministry and released to the public.

Earlier, Reuters located daytime footage of the building known as the Adriatic Restaurant on Moskovska Street in Lysychansk. However, they were unable to confirm the date or accuracy of the video released by the ministry on Saturday.

According to Reuters, Ukrainian authorities have not provided a statement regarding the incident.

Per statements from officials appointed by Russia, the attack utilized High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) provided by the U.S. These officials also reported that, according to Russia’s state-owned TASS news agency, the average age of those affected was 35.

Before being invaded by Russia in the summer of 2022, Lysychansk had a population of approximately 110,000 people. Currently, it is located 15 kilometers (9 miles) away from the territory controlled by Ukraine.

The attack occurred while Ukraine’s air force reported on Saturday that it had successfully taken down nine out of fourteen Russian drones that were attempting to target central and southern regions of Ukraine.

The officials of the air force reported that the Shahed drones, produced in Iran, were primarily intended for targeting “energy infrastructure facilities” in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

The city hit hardest by the assault was Krivy Rig, the birthplace of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to Agence France-Presse, there have been no fatalities or injuries, but approximately 15,000 individuals are currently experiencing power outages.

On Saturday, the British Defense Ministry reported that Ukraine has recently exported a record amount of agricultural goods, surpassing levels seen before the Russian invasion. The ministry credited the reopening of Ukraine’s Black Sea ports for this achievement, noting its importance in global trade and food supply. In fact, Ukraine’s grain exports have now exceeded the volume achieved during the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

The ministry further stated that the western Black Sea has restricted Russia’s operations due to the existence of Ukrainian missiles and unmanned surface vessels.

The United Nations representative for Ukraine, Denise Brown, strongly denounced an attack on aid workers in southern Ukraine on Thursday. The attack resulted in the deaths of two workers and left three others injured.

On Thursday evening, while carrying out a field evaluation in southeastern Ukraine, two employees of the Swiss aid organization HEKS/EPER were reportedly attacked. The incident was reported by the organization itself.

Authorities from Ukraine later confirmed that the two humanitarian workers who were killed in a drone strike in Beryslav, located in the Kherson region, were citizens of France.

The identities of the aid workers have not been revealed.

Brown expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the two aid workers in a statement, stating that her heart goes out to their loved ones and coworkers during this extremely tragic period.

The person in charge of humanitarian efforts expressed surprise at the news that aid workers’ vehicles were attacked in a way that resembled a previous tragic event in Chasiv Yar, Ukraine. This incident occurred just a week ago and resulted in a humanitarian vehicle being hit and an aid worker getting injured.

According to Brown, the laws of international humanitarianism prohibit assaults on humanitarian employees and the repeated breaches of these laws should greatly concern the global community.

The French aid workers were attacked, which French President Emmanuel Macron described as a “cowardly and outrageous act.”

He expressed his support for all the volunteers on social media platform X who are dedicated to aiding others.

On X, French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne stated that Russia will be held accountable for its actions.

Zelenskyy extended his sympathies and thanked the French aid workers for their service.

On X, he stated, “Terrorism in Russia does not discriminate based on borders or the nationality of its victims.” He also expressed gratitude for the courageous French aid workers who provided assistance to those in need.

On Friday, Melanie Joly, the Foreign Minister of Canada, visited Kyiv, Ukraine for discussions with her Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba.

During a shared press conference after their discussions, the two representatives declared the formation of a fresh global alliance aimed at returning Ukrainian minors who were unlawfully brought to Russia.

Kuleba has stated that he is actively pursuing the use of frozen Russian assets to aid in Ukraine’s recovery from the war.
