The Security Council emphasizes their previous request for prompt and secure distribution of assistance to Gaza.
Members issued a statement on Saturday expressing their deep concern over reports that “more than 100 individuals lost their lives, with several hundred others sustaining injuries, including gunshot wounds…in an incident involving Israeli forces at a large gathering surrounding a humanitarian assistance convoy southwest of Gaza City.”
It was mentioned that a probe conducted by Israeli authorities is currently in progress.
The Council emphasized the importance of implementing necessary actions to safeguard civilians and their infrastructure. They also stated that all sides involved in conflicts are required to follow their duties according to international law.
Immediate aid delivery
Officials urged parties to avoid depriving residents of Gaza Strip of vital resources and essential humanitarian aid.
The Council shared serious worries about the possibility that the entire population, which totals over two million, may experience concerning levels of severe food shortage.
The members restated their request for parties to enable the swift and safe delivery of large-scale humanitarian aid to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.
The group strongly advised Israel to maintain open border crossings for the purpose of allowing humanitarian aid to reach Gaza. They also called for the creation of more crossings to address increased humanitarian needs and to ensure the swift and secure distribution of relief materials throughout the area.
