On Thursday, Britain implemented sanctions on over 50 people and organizations linked to Russia. This action is aimed at cutting off sources of income for Russia, particularly in industries such as diamonds, metals, and energy trade.

In a declaration, the British Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, restated his backing of Ukraine, almost two years after Russia initiated a widespread invasion.

Cameron stated that due to our global economic actions, Russia is unable to finance their unlawful invasion. He also mentioned that the recent penalties are causing Putin to lack the necessary resources to support his ongoing conflict.

According to a statement from Britain’s Foreign Office, the individuals facing sanctions include importers and manufacturers responsible for creating machine tools used in defense systems, as well as fighter jets, engines, tanks, and missiles.

The sanctions also intend to focus on Russian shipping actions deemed as harmful, such as utilizing “shadow fleet” ships to evade oil sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom and its allies from the Group of Seven advanced nations, the G7.

The announcement also mentioned the implementation of additional measures to broaden the range of items that will be prevented from reaching “Russia’s war machine.”

The foreign office announced that the individuals and entities who have been sanctioned are connected to companies involved in producing weapons, such as Sverdlov State Owned Enterprise, the biggest Russian ammunition company.

Niels Troost, a trader in the oil industry, and his company, Paramount Energy & Commodities, have been subject to sanctions for allegedly aiding in the Russian oil trade in a way that evades sanctions.

Additional organizations participating in covert naval activities in Russia have also been selected for scrutiny, along with those responsible for the production of copper, diamonds, steel, and zinc.

On Wednesday, the European Union declared its own set of sanctions which aim at approximately 200 entities and individuals.

Cameron is scheduled to travel to New York this Saturday for a significant United Nations meeting focused on Ukraine. During the session, he plans to have a discussion with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. This meeting coincides with the commemoration of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The Russian government has labeled their invasion as a “unique military mission.”

The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on over 2,000 Russian individuals and entities. During the U.N. meeting, it is anticipated that Cameron will reaffirm the U.K.’s ongoing backing.
