The Donetsk region in Ukraine has been the focus of attention for Washington.

According to two reliable sources, the Ukrainian government has notified the White House of its intention to dismiss the top military leader responsible for managing the conflict with Russian occupation forces on Friday.

The move to oust General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, who has clashed with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over military strategy and other issues, follows a Ukrainian counteroffensive last year that failed to recover significant amounts of Russian-held territory.

According to a source near Zelenskyy’s office, there has been disagreement between the two regarding a new military mobilization effort. The president is against Zaluzhnyi’s suggestion to enlist 500,000 additional troops.

The informant also stated that the procedure for removing Zaluzhnyi from his position as the top commander of Ukraine’s military is currently paused while authorities determine who will take his place.

Another source with knowledge on the matter stated that the White House did not take a stance on the proposed replacement of Zaluzhnyi.

The initial report from The Washington Post stated that the White House was notified by Ukraine of their intention to terminate Zaluzhnyi.

A source close to the Ukrainian president’s office stated that U.S. officials expressed no objection to the dismissal of Zaluzhnyi.
