According to state news agencies, Russia has added a Ukrainian singer, who was the winner of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, to their wanted list on Monday.

According to reports, the Interior Ministry database stated that singer Susana Jamaladinova was wanted for breaking a criminal law.

Mediazona, an independent news source that reports on opposition and human rights matters, reported that Jamaladinova was accused of violating a recent law that prohibits dissemination of false information about the Russian military and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Jamaladinova, known by her stage name Jamala, is of Crimean Tatar ancestry. She was the victorious contestant in the 2016 Eurovision competition with her song “1944,” which is a nod to the year when the Soviet Union forcibly exiled Crimean Tatars.

Her victorious achievement occurred nearly two years after Russia took control of Crimea amid political chaos in Ukraine. The majority of other nations view this takeover as unauthorized.

The inclusion of the song “1944” in the Eurovision competition sparked protest from Russia, who claimed it went against the rules regarding political speech. However, the song did not directly criticize Russia or the Soviet Union, although it could be interpreted as such. The lyrics begin with “When strangers are coming, they come to your house, they kill you all and say ‘We’re not guilty.'”
